Decision making in international contexts

We demonstrate that in addition to previous work documenting effects of foreign language use on individual decision making in terms of loss aversion and ethical decisions aslo affects decision in prisoner dilemma-like settings. As a novel aspect we theoretically suggest and empricial demonstrate a moderation of the language effect by individuals' dispositions to deliberate thinking. We also suggest that individuals initial steps in a decision but not further deliberate thinking is affected by foreign language use.

Foreign language anxiety

We adapt a foreign language scale originally developed for application in foreign classrooms to the context of professional meetings. We provide reliability and validity tests (incl.divergent and test-retest validation). We also provide information on the scales relationship to the HEXACO personality inventory and gender. We are able to demonstrate that the gender effect in foreign langauge anxiety in professional meetings is fully explained by gender differences in persoanlity dimensions, specifically and in order of importance by emotionality, conscientiousness, and extraversion.
